Whenever you create a new website or blog for a business, the first thing you want is that Google and other search engines to index it quickly and that people can easily find it. Until Google has not indexed your website, the only way to find it is by typing its name in the address bar of the browser. Usually you have to wait for Googlebot to crawl the new domain and add it to database, but depending on the site and your luck you may need to wait a couple of weeks until this happens.
You may wonder, what you can do to make Google index your website quickly? Let’s see how Google’s robots crawl the content of a website and check some tips to get Google to index the web as soon as possible.
What is crawling or indexing? and what is Googlebot?
I started talking about Googlebot, crawling and indexing, but I have not explained what that means or what their functions are. Well, let’s explain this:
The Google Bots are the robots that Google uses to visit various websites, read the content and add the links to Google database. Googlebot is simply a Google search software that gather information on the web through web links.
Tracking is the process wherein the Google robot goes from place to place looking for new and updated information to inform Google about it. As I said before, the robot “travels” through the links of the sites to gather new information.
Indexing is the process in which the information collected by the robot from Google earlier in the trace is analysed and, if qualified, it gets added to the Google search index and is related to certain keywords. Thus, indexed pages are displayed when searching in the search for a particular term or typing its URL.
Thus, the overall process is as follows: Googlebot starts to crawl a page that is, or not already indexed. From the links, it spiders all pages in the same site until it finds an outgoing link to another website. The robot or “spider”, then tracks the new page, analyses the external page and so indexes the content it finds and so on…
How to make google find your new website or blog?
Let’s see some ways to get your website indexed in Google. It is best that these actions will also help to index all pages of the site and also attract good traffic to your site once it is indexed.
Create a sitemap
A sitemap is an XML document that shows each of the pages of the website. The sitemap tells the search engines when you have added new pages and how often to check back the site for new changes. If you work with a CMS like Drupal, WordPress, Joomla, Prestashop or Magento, you’ll find “widgets” or “components” that automatically create the sitemap.
Send the sitemap to google webmaster tools
Once you’ve created it, you must visit the Google Webmaster Tools and add your sitemap under Crawl – Sitemap, in the website account. This step is critical for Google to recognise all your pages and definitely speed up the indexing process.
Send the URL of your site directly to the search engines.
The classic way to do this, and thought it is not a guaranteed faster approach, it does guarantee the indexing or at least notifying the search engines about your page. You can submit your site to Google for example (Submit URL) or Bing (Submit Site URL).
You can also send a unique URL to Google using the Inspect any URL report. This way, Google will index the url as a priority.
Add your website or blog in the social profiles.
Social media is one very important part of getting recognised as a quality content from search engines. Having an account on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and YouTube is a way to show search engines that your pages or content are well liked, this translated to a faster indexing. Social networking is a space to share your website or blog. Add your URL there. This will create a public profile link to your site, later when robots move around the social network, they will find your site very, very fast and index it equally fast.
Get your website live
Write an article as a guest on a popular blog, leave a comment with regard to a link from your username or ask to get your link exposed directly through an exchange or any other strategy to get your page link displayed in other popular well indexed pages.
Configure your RSS with feedburner
Feedburner is the management tool of Google RSS. Simply log in with your Google or register and send the URL of your RSS, this way Google will quickly recognise your blog or website and so index it. This combined system with sending the sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools will not only improve your site indexing, but will keep your site updated during the passage of time.
Faster indexing with social media
When your website or blog is indexed, you will start receiving more and more traffic through Google and other search engines (Use google analytics to track your visits).
To keep increasing your organic traffic and your indexing, is to create new quality content regularly and share through different social networks (especially Google+). This strategy together with RSS and constant sitemap indexing to Google, the site will remain constantly updated.
Sites that create content more regularly are more frequented and easily tracked by Google robots, resulting in faster indexing. If you have a static website, consider adding a blog to create content regularly.
There are many techniques for fast indexing. Do you know any method which has not been appointed? Have you tried any? How long have taken your web site to get indexed? Share your experience and your comments.
